Proactive or reactive?
My dilemma is whether to continue my bolt ons or go ahead and rebuild the weakest point of my car? (stock 10 bolt with 116k). I have zero issues with my rear end currently, and it is an a4 which buys me a little more time, but I know it's borrowed time none the less. Basically it would come down to spending 1k in a new cam set up or going with 3.73's and replacing some worn parts in the rear end. Specs are in sig, and I will not go with a 12 bolt or 9in due to the fact that the car will not see 430+rwhp nor slicks at anytime. Just looking for some insight..

You're caught in the middle because a cam will not be fun to drive with 2.73's, and you're making your rear end weaker by going to 3.73.
I don't know have a vote on which one you do either. I want to say go 3.73 and you'll be fine with an auto, but why fix something that isn't broke? GL

I have 3.23's so the gear ratio with the tc isn't the issue (plus any cam with a 3600 stall is fun, regardless). I wouldn't just be replacing the gears, I would be putting the same 1k into the rear end versus dropping it on the cam kit, I just figure if you're taking the rear end apart, why not upgrade the gears for ~$200...

Buy a rear end girdle and leave the rear alone. If you can avoid case deflection, then your rear can last awhile behind an A4. I wouldn't drop much money into the rear if you don't have too.
