Default Damnit!!!

Well looks like I managed to bust a Moser 9" in some fashion tonite going all of 15 MPH..just BOOM and something was done.

My buddy came and towstrapped the car home for me..as we were pushing it in the garage I noticed the drivers wheels moving funny..looks like its the axle somehow. I started pulling everything apart real quick and on the last retaining nut that holds the axle in the bolt got rounded off.

Basically that's my problem..anyone got any ideas on how to get that nut off so I can get this axle out and see what is going on in there?

I can't believe this garbage..I've had the rearend with 33 spline axles for 2 years..bought it all brand new..thing has MAYBE 1500 miles and between 10-15 track passes, only 3 on a six speed, rest were TH400 setup. I bet if there was any kind of warranty its over by now

I was going prolly 15 or 20 mph, easy shift into second and when clutch engages again all hell broke loose in the back and car wouldn't go anywhere..then it would only move a bit and make a crapload of noise..when we towstrapped it home it was ok though..really didn't make any noises, so I knew it wasn't anything major in the pumpkin itself..just very strange man..this sucks my ***

They have those special socket attachments in different sizes made to grab onto, and then loosen "rounded off" nuts. I have the Craftsman set. Good luck, and sorry about that man.

Take the parking brake shoe off and use a six point box wrench or vice grips if its really rounded off, if that doesnt work you will have to try to hit the corner of the nut with an air chisel to get it off. If that doesnt work you will have to grind the head off the t-bolt from the other side.

My guess would be the locker let go (if you have a locker), its possible an axle broke but with that few passes/miles I doubt it..

I got up early and am going to head over to my garage and see what I can do.

I have vice grips and an air chisel and cutting tools, so I could try all of your methods KP..I have spent way too much on tools already, gonna try to avoid buying more, but thatnks for the info SSG.

Man the locker better not have let go that would be total bullshit, what's the point of spending that kinda money on a rearend if its just gonna break with that little use.

Well keep us posted. I have a 31 spline locker and so far it's been good but I will be pulling it in two weeks to change the gear and I will inspect it.

Did Moser put the locker and everything together? If so, I'd call and tell them the problem. They may have put it together wrong. I have a locker in my car, on a 31 spline like PSJ. Have yet to drive it yet tho. I hope this is not a common issue with lockers.

Update: Moser says the need my invoice from Speed Inc for it. So now Tom has to dig through his attic for a 2 year old invoice, which sucks but he knows I really appreciate it

Guess we'll see what happens.

I borrowed a stock 10 bolt from a buddy and tossed it in the same day I pulled out the 9", car was back out driving Sat nite after breaking the moser on friday nite

The locker is out of the pumpkin and was sent to moser on friday, should have been there a couple days already by now, will have to wait and see.

Kip at Moser told me the company that makes the lockers is pretty good about that stuff, I'm sure when they look at it they will be able to tell its like new and should not have failed.
