Default best gear

Im trying to find the best gear to run in my car. I was looking at the richmond pro gear sets and was wondering if any body else run has ran these gears before. These gears will be going in my outlaw car.

Is this going in a 8.8 in a Mustang? Richmond is fine, good strong gear but noisey. Motive Performance, good strong gear hit or miss on noise. Yukon, maybe not as strong but less noise, more of a street gear.

For pro gears, they won't last long on the street, but you said outlaw car, so not sure this applies.

I'm assuming a 10.5 class?

Richmond seems to have very good 9010 gear sets, I'm not sold on their 8620 stuff just yet. I had them in a 10 bolt and they made lots of noise, but I heard better things about the 9 inch gears, so I'm giving them a shot in my 9 inch.

Pro gears are usually soft so they don't break from shock loading. So by design they wear out quicker. Some 9" Pro sets have a larger input shaft and larger pinion bearings. Do you need them? Most likely not. We have a Camaro that runs low 8's and has been racing for over 20 years with 4.10 to 4.56 gears and has never, not once, broke a ring and pinion. And we use regular gears.

All this BS about loud gears can be boiled down to two things. The design of the rear suspension, that torque arm is a noise transferring SOB. And the gears MUST be set up correctly. If you ever get a chance to look under an old independent rear Thunderbird look at what they had to do to isolate the gear noise from the car. I would imagine the new Camaro has a similar solution.

It is going in a 12 bolt drag race only. I'm trying to push the limit of a stock12 bolt housing ,noise isn't a issue. Just seeing if anyone else has ran those gears before and if they are worth the money. The car will have a 5500 stall and be running a 10.5 tire. Any feedback is welcomed
