In that case... what all decisions do I have to make on the rear?

Housing, gears, spline, locked/non locked, etc... axles or do those come w/ the rear?

The search engine is your friend.

Trac-locs and mainly trutracs have been known to break, especially in a M6. The only other lsd option is a wavetrac, which is an extra $650+. It has a lifetime warranty though.

good info. See I didn't know that I had a detroit locker in mind to start with. You first need to decide on a rear. Then decide the necessary stuff for that rear. If you go 9 inch youll need a housing/axles (spline determined by carrier)/decide factory or aftermarket brakes/ABS or no ABS/ type of locker(carrier)/gear ratio/driveshaft

as for me:
QP housing
Moser 31 spline axles sealed roller bearings
Nascar 3rd memeber = 31 spline detroit locker, lightweight 4.11 polished gears, Strange nodular case
Reusing factory brakes
ABS delete (it didnt work with the 10 bolt)
UMI full length TA
Nascar shortened 4 inch driveshaft
and a nice thank you to Lakey Cornelius at RCR

no,i dont remember exact #s........but it was very close to the same amount of weight.....the 10 bolt weight,i think it might be in one of the stickies.

you are right about the 3rd members......
i had a strange aluminum case with spool & 456..... light,broke it.
and a cast strange S case with spool & 456 gears......a little heavier
and now i have a yukon bolt thru case with spool & 456 gears......weighs the most, but what a monster! i dont see ever breaking it.....

I've got the Tru-Trac in my S60, and as long as your follow the directions from Strange (non-synthetic oil with limited slip additive), it will work flawlessly, street or track, and is 100% completely quiet. You would have no idea that the rear wasn't stock unless you looked under the car.

Thanks. I wonder about the other one that has the lifetime warranty.

I have a MWC fab9, 4.11 gears, spool....itd a lot of fun to drive, except on tight turns, lol....if you want something you wont have to worry about braking, get a 9" with a wavetrack, its gonna cost a bit more, but you get piece of mind in return...if you want more info I recommed you call a sponsor that way they can put together a set up that sutes your needs

Give me a call. I can go through all the rearends and options to get you the right parts for your needs and the guaranted best prices. I designed and manufacture the ever-popular MWC fabricated 9 inch rearend package, and MWC is also a direct dealer for Strange(S60 rearend and 9 inch components), Moser, and Yukon gear & Axle. I have the most options of anyone selling rearends and the knowledge/experience to back it all up.

You will get 10 different stories from 10 different people here, which isn't all bad, but I know all of these rearends and can answer any question you have.

I think I spent right at 2600 w/ a chromoly driveshaft. The S60 comes with 35 spline axles also. The S60 eats less horsepower than a 9 inch, but weighs slightly more (same center section).. The ring gear in the S60 is also 9.75" compared to the 9 inch's 9" ring gear.

And if it's road trips and RPM's you're worried about with the 9", go "middle of the road" and get it with a 3.89
