Rear end Removal?
ive looked for a write up but cant seem to find one.
secondly if there isnt one ill jsut wing it. but whats the safest way to remove the coil springs?
out of all the stuff ive done to my/friends cars coil spring removal is something that still makes me nervous.
suggestions please?
spring compressors safe enough?
Disconnect: Shocks, Torque Arm, LCAs, PHR, E brake cables (disconnect easy from behind the wheel, then slide the cables out), Brake lines (I took the rubber lines out of the mount at the body), ABS harness.
Dont think Im forgetting anything, but drop it slow to make sure everything is disconnected.
As for the springs, support the body, and let the suspension hang. Grab the spring with your hands, and lift it up off the seat, then take it out. Once the suspension is at full droop, there is only a little pressure on the springs. You can unbolt the shocks, and drop it down even further, theyll just about fall out.
I dropped the rear on an 02 Z28 recently, and have done a few sets of lowering springs on a few different Fbodys this way, never an issue.
