Default strange 12 bolt axle moves in and out

I jacked my car up and the driver side wheel has a little play, i can move the axle in and out of the axle tube. the 4 bolts that hold the axle in are tight. Im thinking maybe the wheel bearing is shot unless this is normal?? Looks like the wheel wobbles when driving down the street.
Any ideas thanks. Gonna call strange tomorrow and see what they say

How many miles on it? and did you take care when pressing the wheel bearings on the axle? Its c-clip eliminator right?

I'd say I have well over 30,000 miles on mine, mostly 10 sec passes...still tight

Yes c clip eliminator. I probably have 40k on it. It came fully assemble from strange, but i did have a axle a few years back, cant remember what side though. Anyways, i pulled the driverside axle out tonite, i notice the wheel bearing looked fine but you could slide it up and down on the axle shaft, shouldn't the wheel bearing be tight around the axle or is that normal too? My passenger side has no play what so ever

Also when I pulled that axle out a few years back , I think the machine shop put a new wheel bearing and seal on and possibly messed something up now, not for sure though

The axle bearings on my Moser 12 bolt pressed on, I would think the Strange would be no different.

Pressed on bearing should have zero play on the axle shaft. It takes alot of hydraulic pressure to press them on. Check the od of the shaft where the bearing is to make sure it,s in spec.

There should be a spacer pressed on first between the bearing and axle flange. The bearing should butt up against this spacer. After the bearing is on there should be a wedding ring/band pressed on against the other side of the bearing. The wedding ring/band is what the axle seal runs on. If the bearing moves side to side something is wrong. My guess is the band wasn't pressed on far enough...

Ever figured this one out?
I am having the same issue with my STR 12 Bolt. Drivers side axle slides in and out a bit. I will measure with a dial indicator later and post.

yeah the wedding ring moved and that's where the play came from.
I ending up putting in a new axle seal, bearing and wedding ring from strange. I think something got hot and that's why the wedding ring moved.

I disassembled, cleaned, inspected, measured and reassembled again. I then put a dial indicator to measure the end play and it turns out to be .007".
I guess that is nothing to worry about.
Now comes the fun part: rebuilding the Eaton POSI supplied with the 12 Bolt.

Well, it did not last long.
Finally got around to fixing it.
Bought a bearing kit from Summit and replaced the one that was moving in and out.
