In my case it wasnt the actual shaft that twisted, but the splines.

And oddly this only occurred after I upgraded.

I started with small diameter 28 spline shafts. These never gave any problems.
Then upgraded to large diameter shafts but still 28 spline ( larger c-clip elim bearings )
The splines twisted slightly

I then upgraded to 31 spline which used the same larger diameter shaft but with 31 spline. Again these splines twisted

Both times they twisted by about 1 full spline.

I'm now using Mark Williams shafts and have no such problems.
