All I can find is opinions. There are no rock solid facts anywhere, at least not that I can find. I want a rear end that is good up to 800 ft/lbs of torque (wont ever get there) but is made for the street. I read ppl saying that the S60 sucks on street but is the only thing that will hold up to that kind of power...

I would do some more reading, because your kind of off base with what your posting. There is no rock solid fact to point to what to use, because its really just personal preference.

The S60 doesn't "suck on the street" it has to do with what differential is being used.

A 9inch or S60 with a spool either would hold that power. If you want stock like driveablity then go with the 9 inch and a wave/s-trac. The wave/s-trac both carry warranties and are supposed to handle that kind of power.

People think S60's suck because they are heavy. With a spool you will not break it, but the same can be said about a 9inch as well.

spool is drag only. This car wont be drag raced. I want 3.42 gears and the only reason I want a rear capable of 800 and not 600 is cuz I want the tranny and rear end at the same level.

I am perfectly happy with my 3.73 moser 12 bolt but if you are looking for specifically 800 ft lbs I'd probably toss in a 9 inch. I don't know if you can get 3.42 ratio in a 9 inch though? Heavier and stronger than a 12 bolt but lighter than the s60.

FYI - trans and rear end don't have to match that power rating 1) if the engine isn't putting out that much 2) if you never plan to race with slicks or drag radials

it'll be putting out a lot, and I'm the kinda guy who likes to know i cant break it unless i drive it like a jackass. im looking at a moser 9" and the closest they have is 3.5

Get a taller tire if you want to get closer to the 3.42 gear.

I beat the hell out of a 59 Ford 9inch Rear with a C7AW-E Non Nodular case and 31 splines Moser axles..

Parts are plentiful and get a spare 3rd member for quick gear changes.

street, T56, no, 3400 maybe, going with an LS so its not gunna be a 600 pound engine and I'm replacing the front seats with racing seats which are like 26 pounds each.

Im in the process of building my own 9 inch, so far I have all the parts (on order and paid for) for less than 1700... If you go with a 9 inch be sure and get a nodular carrier and use a "daytona" pinion support. They have larger pinion bearings and can handle a little more torque. aftermarket cases are plentiful and cheap. A few vendors have the mosier bolt in housing i think.

i received an s60 yesterday. has 3.73 ratio and the s-trac diff. Hope to have it installed by the end of october. My car is a daily driver during the summer to and from work, so once i get it in and get some miles on it i'll be able to tell you how good/bad it is.

If I get the 9" with the wavetrac what oil should I use? all the synthetics I see have friction modifiers and those are supposed to be bad..

been running a S60 w/truetrac w/4.10 for 3-4yrs now (about 12,xxx miles)
-street driven
-drag raced
-auto x

for the money it cant be beat.
yeah the 4.10 howls a little, and the torque arm likes to hit the floor board tunnel, but that's part of going faster with reliability.

What oil do I use? The only other oil I have found so far (still in the process of looking) is Castrol Hypo C Gear Oil...

Normally the specific supplier/manufacturer of the axle will tell you the preferred oil to use.
