Default Opinions on longevity posi VS open

If you overpower a vehicle what do you think would last longest? An open diff or a posi? My thought is that there is less stress if the one tire just spins, the spider gears are not to happy, but the assembly as a whole should not grenade. I am running approx 450 RWHP through a Toyota 8" diff, I want to add a posi, but I am of course afraid of something breaking. What say you?

I'd say go posi. I'd rather break leaving two black marks then not break leaving one

^^^Awesome. Agreed. ^^^

If I was spending money I would only go posi of some sort because... well why not (see my avatar).

Besides, how many performance based open differentials are on the market?

in a sense, for a performance option the open diff is actually 'stronger' then the LSD cause it lets the least traction tire spin. BUT...when that happens, it spins that tire twice as fast then your actual speed. it actually puts more stress on the spider gears and will hence wear out faster in a performance application.

i would go posi, not tru trac!
