Aluminum shaft or steel? I always use a gear puller to push the u-joint through.

Its the Aluminum stock shaft.

I ought to post that picture of that vice. it destroyed it lol

What do you guys think of using a torch on this aluminum shaft to get the bearings out? Or would it be a better idea to use dry ice to contract it? Or third option, shall I just have it taken to a shop and have them press in my new bearings so all I have to do is drop the shaft back in?

I did this not even 2 days ago.

If you look closely youll see tiny pins sticking out of the sides of the shaft, thats a stupid nylon/plastic that was injected into it to act as a C clip to hold the U joint in. Youll have to torch it to get it out before you get the U joint out like this:

Then you can get the U join out and in the driveshaft using a press OR with a hammer and socket just like this:

That should be all you need. And your new U joint probly comes with C clips to put it too. There you go!

The aluminum dissipates the heat really well. It's hard to get it hot enough. Mid shaft will be warm when you're done.

Yup it is. I was a bit skeptical at first too but it does take a little time to get it hot enough. You can use any propane torch lowes sells maybe even walmart sells.
