Default welding axle tubes

i have a 98 t/a with the mods listed in sig. i am on a factory 10 bolt right now with 133K miles on it. i plan on upgrading the girdle, welding axles tubes, and new fluid. i plan to run it until it breaks.

my question is, is there anything special i have to do to weld the axle tubes? does the rear end have to come down? can i weld the tubes without removing anything?

Really no need to weld them.

A rebuild kit is better money spent then anything you listed.

i have read a bunch of threads and it seems like something debated plenty. i came to a conclusion that it was a waste to really spend money on the 10 bolt. but a girdle added a little strength, and welding the tubes was something i could do for free.

Yeah and I can see how you'd come to that conclusion. But, you need to pick and choose what opinions you listen to. I've rebuilt a ton of rearends, self taught, and NONE of my 10 bolts have ever broken and they have all been raced on sticky tires. Not saying they can't break, but don't under-estimate a fresh rear end. Don't believe me?

I wouldn't even worry about a 10 bolt behind a auto.

I welded some once , just to keep oil from seeping out of the tubes. Always had oil seeping from them after I put drag radials on it and did a few launches. But dont waste your time , because it will soon die no matter what you try.

welding them is suppose to help keep them from breaking axles. That is the only problem I have had since the 3.90 gears.....and I'm a m6 car. A auto will run well into the 10's on a 10bolt.

WELD THEM UP===it will help with the tubes deflecting. Gm presses them in and puts a couple of spot welds on them. Welding them all the way around where they are pressed in. Easy to do and strengthens it up.
