Default Gear ratio to cam

Ok so I am putting cam and heads on my car (a4 3600 stall) and I am not sure how the gears affect it? Right now I have 2.73 gears . This winter I am going to buy a built rear end, but I am not sure if I will have to throw some gears in my current rear end because of the cam. Thanks

Depends what you are going to do with the car. Drags, autocross, street?? The basic idea is to gear the car to keep engine rpm's in the powerband. Tire height will also affect final ratio. Good all around ratios are from about 3.50 to 4.11 for cars that will be street driven.

Go with a 3:42 gear. That way you will have plenty of grunt down low with the help of the stall while maintaining great drive ability.

how about some info on the cam, just throwing out gear ratios without knowing about the cam is worthless.

Friend had 4.10s in his stalled auto (10 bolt) and said he liked them except on the highway and he didn't have much traction in first. 3.73s in the 12 bolt, and traction was a lot better, can't say on the highway though (unexpectedly a lot better as well). His cam is relatively large (I think it might be the MS3, not sure).
