Realistically, the 12 bolt isn't THAT much heavier than a 10 bolt. Especially when compared to the weight difference with a 9" or S60. And even though you can get the noises from them from hard launches, they are primo for auto-x and road course use and even roll races on the highway, which is what the OP is shooting for. They do not eat up as much power as some of the other rears, they are relatively inexpensive, and parts are available almost anywhere. Throw a smooth running wavetrac in it and go. If you want to keep the weight down even further since the wavetrac takes 35 spline axles, get an Eaton with 33 spline and call it a day.

I can get you into a lightweight fabricated 9" rearend complete package that includes a chromoly adjustable torque arm, crossmember, Strange axles, Strange aluminum center section with a posi unit for about 3300.00 shipped. By the time you add the cost of a good torque arm to the 12 bolt you will be very close to the same cost.
The car is a hugger , 1LE, I hear that the S60 is tougher that a 9" but a pig on weight and more for drag racing ? I have installed from Spohn an adjustable pannard bar , rear lower control arms and their torque arm with the del-sphere bushing . I have a Spec stage 2 clutch kit an an aluminum flywheel . Not a drag car , but it has sub-frame connectors .

The factory aluminum driveshafts are paper thin, when they break they normally take out other parts as the front part of it continues to widely swing around under there. Bob

That's true, they generally dent the floor pan and destroy the parking brake cables that run in the tunnel. There are also fuel and brake lines that can be damaged. Worse case scenario they tear the transmission up. Just not worth it to push a stock driveshaft.

My torque arm has a driveshaft loop , I don't dump the clutch , I do rolling starts , I don't drag race , so there should be no problems .

Most F Bodys came from the factory with an aluminum driveshaft, and many people break them when power shifting into second, so be careful. Bob

...In theory.

One of my fabricators here broke the stock shaft with the 10 bolt in the car still- on the street, and on factory tires.

The real scenario is if you plan on any performance driving whatsoever that the stock shaft will most likley be comprimised at some point. If you break the stock shaft, it tears up the floors, exhaust, and usually the trans too, you will easily incur 1500.00+ in repairs... then you still have to buy a driveshaft to replace the failed one!

Take the 150.00ish you can get out of selling your factory shaft and apply that toward a good one that won't cost you 1000s in damage. Your end result is only about 150-300 out of pocket then.

Give us a call. We are direct with Strange and PST and offer the lowest prices on several choices of driveshaft and yoke stlyes. We will also be glad to help you on selecting the proper rearend when you decide on that as well. MWC is the leader in f-body rearends! Guaranteed lowest prices, expert tech help, best service. Give us a call or email for any info you need!

No matter who/where you buy a driveshaft from, I would get an aftermarket one to replace your factory driveshaft. Bob

Got the S60 in my 6spd car...right now im at 465/427 at the tires...i got it with a Truetrac diff so I could still drive and enjoy my car and its great. Wouldnt ever know its back there. Awesome rearend. I plan on adding a procharger down the road soon...however even if i wasnt, the S60 would still be my choice. 12 bolts are known to lack pinion support and are not suggested for manual tranny cars.
