Default Back braceing a Moser 9 inch

I recently puchased a used Moser 9inch. Id decided to install a diffrent gear set. In the process i said what heck and sand blasted it . With the intent of POR 15 and installing drain plugs. What is everyone opion of installing a back brace on a used rear end. Is it a smart idea to install on a used rear end or not?

I don't know about that, but if you went through all the work of blasting the housing, why not just have it powder coated for 50-75 bucks?

When building a housing the last weld should be the housing ends, if it were brought to Me to add a back brace it would also have the ends cut off and re installed. Could get pricey!

doing a small spot on one side and then a small spot on another wouldnt work ? And not finish the whole job on the 1st try , maybe 4-5 heat ups. ?

A local guy did it in his 9s mopar. I blasted painted it for him after he added the back brace. Running strong for over 5 seasons. FYI.

Kind of risky unless your very careful with your heat input while welding. Don't want to cause the axle tubes to pull, it doesn't take much heat to cause them to move. I wouldn't think its worth the risk or cost to add it.

You can sure try it, just take it to a chassis shop and have them check it for straightness after Your finished. For an interesting experiment have it checked before You start too.

Eric @ Midwest Chassis states that when you buy the 9" that he offers that if you have idea that you're going to need the backbrace, add it then or forever hold your peace, I assume this is for a reason. Like someone said earlier, the tubes will pull away with VERY LITTLE heat.

^^^ this.

If you add a brace to the housing no matter what the weld process is you WILL warp the housing.
