Gear housing question
OK, I recently bought a Camaro that is a GU2 car according to the door sticker. But it currently has 3.23s in it. The previous owner has no idea if it's the original rear end with upgraded gears, or if the rear end was swapped.
I'm wanting to upgrade to 3.73 or 3.90, but how can I tell if I need series 2 or series 3 carrier?
Thanks for any tips...

Thanks! So if I had some used series 3 gears in 4.10 or something--they could be made to fit with either series? Does the spacer have any consequences?

GM 4.10s' only come as 3 series, aftermarket 4.10s' come in both 2 series and 3 series.
Using a spacer to be able to use a 3 series ring gear on a 2 series carrier is considered by the general consensus to NOT be the ideal situation.
3 series gearsets are available in 3.23,3.42,3.73,3.90,4.10,4.30, & 4.56.
2 series gearsets are available in 2.73,3.08,3.42,3.73,4.10. The 3.42,3.73, & 4.10 are classified/called 'thick' gearsets.
