Push it all the way in, then pull it back out 3/4". I take it you're having a new driveshaft made?

I was checking to see if my stock driveshsft would work with my 9 inch rear...the driveshaft that came with my 9" was for a long tailshaft trans...i have a short tailshaft...

The engagement into the transmission should be from 2 3/4 to 3 inch max. The part remaining outside should be 1 inch.

Use some permanent marker or some paint marker to highlight how much engagement you have. You can get away with 2 inch as a temporary setup like reusing the stock ds but its not recommended.
