clunking noise

When the cars is turning the rear end makes a clunking noise it does not do it if you push in the clutch and coast through the turn. Before it started making the clunking noise it made a growning noise while turning. The growning noise then turned into the clunking noise. I am thinking that the posi traction is worn out. Can it be rebuilt or do I need a new unit.

If it's a auburn you can replace the axle gears. Mine did the same thing. Axle gear was broken. If it's a Torsen id just find a carrier.

A Y2K(2000) would have a Torsen. 98s' and earlier had Auburn.

It doesn't sound like the problem is in your rear if it stops when you push in the clutch.
