Default Going from 3.23's to 3.73's in A4

Is this mod worth it, or just a waste of time? What kind of gains will I get from the track and dyno?

Default It felt pretty good to me.

All-in-all I felt a distinct difference and it was not SOTP difference, hoever, it pulled better and it was worth it to me. A dark green SVT Mustang GT with body kit and what sounded like some pretty heavy mods jumped on me before I ditched the 3.23 gears. I beat him, but, not by a lot.

Today, he came up beside me at a stoplight ... gave me a smartass nod and we both dug hard. I pulled on him easily and by the time we hit 40mph, I grabbed 2nd (my car is an A4) and it looked like he was on a B&N scooter ... blistered his green Ford *** LOL!

It wasn't 'til today that I realized what it did for my A4 car. It feels nice and was well worth the $700.00 that it cost me to have installed. I had the OEM 3.73 installed. Installation day, the guy couldn't get the Precision gear and gave me the GM gear for the same price. The GM would have cost me about $120 more if it weren't for that. It's really quiet with no noise at all.

Just ensure that the installer has the equipment to tune the PCM to the bigger gear set ... or that you have a tuner that will do the same, if you use an aftermarket programmer. I sent the T/A in for gears with the stock programming and then did the Superchips MAX programmer tune.

Good luck if you decide to exchange your gears.

I love the 3.73s in my A4! At the track I had some pretty slow reaction times with cars pulling much better 60 foot times than me and pulling hard in the beginning. I caught up and pulled on em' all towards the last 1/2 of the 1/4 mile. The car is alot more fun to drive now but I do still wonder if i should have dropped $ for a converter instead. As far as fuel economy my car cruises at about 2500 rpm at 75 mph instead of 2000 before.

Get the right stall converter and forget changing out the gears. I've hit a 1.496 60' with 3.23 gears. I have a PI 3600 stall, #7 pump.

You'll notice that most of the A4 people that say they got a good gain by swapping gears are have stock converters. With a good 3500+ stall, gears only help a little.

yeah after you suffer the converter mpg loss you might rethink your gear selections

esp if your a city slicker.

.........and its a waste to throw money into a 10 bolt...... Im on my 3rd set of 3.73's.... I had 2.73's to start with and i did my converter and gears at the same time.... we thought my stock gears were going out but it was just a bearing.... i should of kept the stock gears..... or just saved for a 12 bolt...... 10 bolt gears wont hold up at the track for to long.....

i wouldnt want my car if she didnt have a stall... a stock stall is to boring to drive/ride in LMAO

i mighta lost 1-2mpg is that with the stall.. but thats heavy traffic driving. Really I didnt see hardly any gas difference. Stock 3.23's here still, but 3.42's are going in this weekend cause im replacing the posi outta my stock unit with a spare rear. Spare rear just happens to be from a M6 and has 3.42's so those are going in... but i wouldnt bother putting those in if they werent free lol

a stall can be made for any gear you have... the higher the gear, the more you want a higher STR on the stall

I put a converter and full exhaust and droped 1.2 off my time with a 1.69 sixty foot. Gears are a waste of money you can take that and put it in a converter. Dont worry about gears until you have nothing else to do. That should be the last thing on your mind.

3:23 will allow your rear to last longer with a good stall....as everyone has said maybe if you are more stock gears help but not to much with bigger stalls
