85 c10 diff question!

85 c10 diff question! My step father has an 85 c10 with the stock rear end. He is talking about how he wants to get his rear end positive track and 3.42 gears after we finish my car. I was wondering what I need to get him so I can make this happen since he has put money into my car!
looks like a GM 10 bolt 8.5",need to find out number of axle splines as 28 & 30 spline axles are both referenced.
