Default Rear end, gear questions

How can you tell what kind of gears you have, ie 2.73, 3.42, etc, on a A4 Camaro SS? How will getting a TransGo shiftkit and VIG or TCI 3800 converter affect it?

When would it be prudent to get a new rear end, either 12 or 9 bolt moser or strange, besides when the stock rear end goes out.

Would any of the above matter if my car will never be street raced and maybe once a month visit to the track if that?

Oh, if it matters, car will always be NA, no NOS.

For your stock gear ratio, check out the drivers door and look at the RPO list.
For an A4, you'll find either GU2 or GU5.
GU2 = 2.73
GU5 = 3.23
3.42s only came on M6 cars.

As for ditching the stock 10-bolt for a 12-bolt or 9-inch...
If the car is pretty much stock, 10-bolt is ok, but if you're gonna do some mods, it won't hold up.
Depends though, some people get lucky.
I'm cutting 1.6x 60ft times on my 10-bolt and I race a couple times a month. Holding up fine. But I'm not couting on it to last forever either.

As for a converter... yes, do it! Best mod for an A4 car period!
