Question thick or standard gears??

ok, i know this has been posted before, i even read it once, but now i tried searching for it and came up with nadda. how can you tell if you have standard or thick gears? and what's the difference? thicker stronger or somethin? just curious. thanks in advance.

you didnt give any info on rear .if you dont have any thing change the thick thin has nothing to do with you, if you change gears and had a different series carrier than gear than it would come in to play, more info needed

well i have a stock rearend. don't know what gears i have now, and am puttin 4.10s in. i heard someone say b4 that there's some code in the vin or on a sticker on the car somewhere to tell you what gears you have though.

Look on the side of your driver door, among all the alpha codes if you have GU2, you'll need thick gears. If you have GX5, you'll need standard gears.

I'm curious about this also. I have 2:73's right now and the guy at the speed shop said I should switch to the thinner 3 series for my 3:42's. He said the gear whine would drive me nuts so I'm switching to 3 series. I would have thought the thicker gears would be stronger, but he said it didn't really matter much. I just don't wanna spend all this money and have my rear end go out on me!
