Default Need some help just bought the car!!

ok bought a 2002 ws6 trans am from what previous owner stated it has a 12 bolt its a 6 speed car drove it home after purchase about 35 minutes to my house and have it for a few days never seen any leaking until so last thurday I was cleaning and seen a puddle of rear end fluid dosent look like its leaking from cover but we changed gasket anyway put back together and all looked good went out of town for the weekend (not in the car)came home and everything looked fine no leak well decide to take it to the store and come home seen a lil puddle looks to be coming from middle of car close to passenger side could it maybe be we should of degreased area when we changed gasket could it be old oil or is there leaking from something else?

overfilled and coming out the vent tube ?

maybe so I'm going to check this afternoon what would cause that seems we put the correct amount of gear oil?

IF it has one of the alloy aftermarket covers on it, and you filled it up to the fill hole on the cover, then you over-filled it, and yes, the gear oil could find it's way out of the vent valve when heated up from driving.

Thanks I will check that and report back I should of cleaned up the old oil while I was under there thinking it could be old oil too just melting off the drive shaft and mufflers

how much gear oil did you use?

used 2qts I got under the car cant see where its coming from cleaned up some of the old oil and this morning I see no puddle so I guess i'll take it out this afternoon and see what happens

Do you have a GoPro you can point at the rear end while you drive? lol jk

I mean it can only be leaking from a few spots really, the housing cover, pinion seal, drain/fill plug etc..

Right but if there was a leak, it should leak while the cars just sitting there right? No leaks from cover for sure.

would a bad pinion seal cause the driver side axel to leak?
