Default U-Joint Strap Upgrade??

Hello,

Just installed my 454 in my 4th gen. Took it for a test drive and....Bang bang clunk clunk!

Drive shaft broke the U-Joint straps. Not sure why, (installed joint caps on wrong? over tightened bolts?) what ever the case is it sheared off the bolts on one and the other strap broke.

Is there any upgrades to make these stronger? Read on U bolts types, but they were mainly for jeeps and off road rigs. Or should i stick with stock strap and carry and extra set in case they break again.

Thanks!

If it is a stock, 7.5" GM 10 bolt, then NO, sadly enough NO ONE has bothered to make billet, or any other stronger straps for our set ups (I know, as I searched high an low for them, and called EVERYONE in the business), like they do for almost every other strong/upgraded axle on the market.

I finally just settled on the Moog Problem Solver plain old steel ones for my 10 bolt.

I wonder if doubling them up would work. I might just carry and extra set. There not to expensive and its an easy fix. Sucks when you have to do it on the side of the road tho

You should break some other drivetrain component before the u bolt breaks. Why with as much power as you have you are only worried about the u bolts you might have to learn this the hard way.....

lol I do plan to learn the hard way in sense, the 10 bolt im goin to get as much life as i can out of it, hopefully till the snow falls. Hence the reason i picked up a 12 bolt that needs rebuilding(that i was told). Winter project

Most failures, are not the u bolts. Id say you got lucky in a sense.
