Default M6 3.73<4.10

Currently have 3.73 gears on the car but initially had those installed cause it was a auto car before the swap.
Since then I've swapped out the cam and was wondering if I would benefit by switching the gears to a 4.10 ratio.

Yes .... Go for The 4.10 Gears. 3.73s with a 6 speed is a waste of time.

Use this web site and calculate the RPM etc in each gear. 3.73 to 4.10 isn't a huge change.

if you plan to keep stock tires I'd go to 3.90's. 4.10's are very short and are going to put you thriough the traps in the 1/4 at less than optimal rpm. 3.73's imo would be a good choice if you had a smaller tire than stock OR had a lot of power

I'm running 4.10's with stock tire diameter. With a CC503 cam, my LT1 goes through the traps at 105 MPH @ 6000 rpm. Still get 24 mpg cruising at 70-75!

This isn't my DD so I'm not worried about mpg. I've heard that 4.10 are the way to go but then the change from 3.73 are minimal

4.10s would def help with your cam and you no doubt changed the valve springs so you're good for what I expect would be a 115-120 trap on 26" tire. Leave the 10 bolt w/3.73s alone and if you blow it up step up to a S60/9" with 4.10 or 4.30s. With a M6 don't waste money on the 10 bolt, I know I did.

This is a run I did with 3.90's. Ran through the traps at 118 mph in 4th. Not a good run (12.52 @117.6, 2.3 60') but gives you an idea of gearing.

4.10 is a good gear choice for M6 cars with 26" tires.

Based on your signature, I think you would like how the 4.10 compliments your setup. I went from 3.42 to 3.90 to 4.10 and wish I would've gone straight to the 4.10s.

My car is a street car and road race setup -- 4.10's are obviously not ideal for the road course, however I haven't pulled the trigger on changing because the car feels so lively on the street.

While the jump from 3.73 to 4.10 isn't huge like the jump from 3.42 to 4.10, I can attest it is a very noticeable difference. The "pro" is that it compliments your cam well and would eliminate any lower rpm dead spots you have. The "cons" would be gas mileage and the fact that you'll be shifting more.

^^^another 'con' is that they are ever so slightly weaker (strength wise) than 3.73s and 3.42s, at least in (already weak) 10 bolt, 7.5" configurations.

which is exactly why I suggested 3.90s. they use a 3.73 pinion which is the weak point of a 4.10 set the ring gear is the same as 4.10. if the op is going to a 26" tire then 3.90s are great, if he goes to a smaller tire than stock 3.73's will be just like 3.90s

+1 for "would not put money into a 10-bolt"

FWIW: I run 3.89's in my 9" and like how the overall ratio worked out.

Yeah I'm just gonna save up for a 9inch.
Heard 8.8 set up is pretty stout too and cheaper

i've always wanted to ask. can most people shift fast enough to really take advantage of 4:10's?

Cheaper if you've got a guy or you're doing the labor yourself. If you're looking at an 8.8 from hawks or something they get pricey fast. It's worth researching, since I needed everything (TA, LCAs, D/S, rear, watts link, etc..) I ended up going MWC because it was only marginally more expensive than my other options and included everything I needed.
