Default How much axle play?

As I was putting the 94Z on my lift today I decided to try to locate the source of the weird 'clunk' on the passenger's side rear. The only thing I found as 'odd' was that I could move the axle in and out about .035-.04". The other side was tighter than that (although it still had a little in-out). It made the wheel seem 'loose', even though the lug nuts were at torque spec. I could actually grab the wheel and move it in and out with the car on the ground.

This is a bone stock 10-bolt 3.23 rear end as set up from the factory. I just started noticing this clunk last year, but haven't been able to find it.

Axle and/or c-clip gone bad? Yeech, I don't like opening up the rear end (that oil smells bad ), but I probably oughta...

Thanks,

Andrew

Sometimes the c-clips get pounded a little and so does the pin. I doubt the noise you are hearing in the car is from that. If its less then .050 I wouldnt worry about it..
