Default 10 bolt pinion yoke 1st and 2nd design question

Hey guys got a quick question for you all. I am trying to find an answer, but yet to find. I have a axle housing 10 bolt, that I am getting series 3 gears 3.73 gears installed in. For my 2001 Trans am. My question was can I use a 1st design pinion yoke on it and use the old style seal for the housing instead of the 2nd second design pinion yoke?

Or I guess if you have a 2nd design pinion yoke can you use a 1st design instead if you have a 1st design pinion yoke to use, for less chance of the two piece design to leak.

The reason is my car is in storage I am taking the axle housing to work to get it done and I am not sure especially since its a 2001 I am not sure what yoke design it has. Because a used 1st design on ebay is like 20 or so dollars shipped.

Are they interchangeable sorry thanks.

according to GM parts layout catalog, there is only one design yoke # 7827670.
the seal has two varieties.
98-99 # 26026792
00 # 26026792
00 # 12471523 a mid production year change
01-02 # 12471523

Ive found very early 01s to have the old seal, late 01s have the newer design. Bottom line is whatever yoke you have match the seal to. Doesnt matter which you use as long as they match.

Thanks fellas as always I appreciate your help. What gets me as to why I questioned this from the beginning is I am a parts guy at a chevy garage, and I was stumped because they show the same pinion yoke part number but different seal number option, 1st or 2nd design. You look for a used pinion yoke lets say e-bay there is listings that show that it only works on certain years such as 82-00 for the one and 01-02 for the other but the catalog shows the same pinion yoke number so idk. Thanks again guys.
