Default gear noise

Rear end noise has become progressively worse over about a year it's only during substantial acceleration..I went to get it looked at by a drivetrain specialist today and he said it was the ring gear and quoted $900 (on my $4000 98 z28) I read that this is common... I must admit I did put 4:10s in the rear about 10 months ago and it was there before hand and I know it was stupid to redo the gears and ignore a noise I just don't see the justification in spending $900 on a $3500 car now that I won't be keeping forever.. Thoughts and criticism

I'm in the same situation of not wanting to spend $2500, or more on the; cam, lifters, oil pump, timing set, etc. my 185K mile hard top needs, when it is only worth about what, that same amount of coin (it's a 1SC stripped car with those miles).

It's my only car, and it will probably need a T56 rebuild, and it's third rear axle rebuild soon as well.

That price quoted you is not bad if it includes a GM/AAM gearset, and a FULL rebuild kit with ALL of the bearings, and a solid pinion spacer.

You could just 'live with' the gear scream, and then decide once it goes completely (IF ever?), unless this is also your ONLY car.

Most on here will tell you "don't throw any more coin into the POS, 'glass' 10 bolt", and to put that $900.00 towards a $2800 to $4500 stronger rear, but that advice is just going BACKWARDS from where (I understand, most on here DO NOT) you want to go.

My rear makes a similar noise, I just had it rebuilt about 800-900 miles ago and out of nowhere it started to make this terrible noise.

It almost sounds like has a "bounce" to it, in regard that when you let off of the gas it stops for a second, then then makes the sound for a second and then goes away decreasing in the time between making the sound and how long the sound is being made. Almost like it sounds like it has "cam bucking" coming from the rear.

Yeah forget that no way I'd drop that kind of money in the car..That's as much as the value of the car that's called being totaled in my book haha...I'm not trying to be a downer for all the fanboys that seem to have endless income and time to throw away in their cars. If you are throwing that kind of money in you 3,4,5,10k car you have an issue and just need to buy a 5th gen...don't get me wrong I love the car but the more I think about it the more it's just making sense getting into the high miles and seeing the deterioration compiling that I just sell it cut my losses and finally man up and buy a trailblazer SS that I truly need for work (real estate) ..... Well I guess I don't need an ss

Jesus H ......I hope they paid you to do it and not the other way around. I'd be waiting for them at 6am when they came into work and demand my money and wouldn't let them touch it again.

I hear ya on that.

IF I had the coin a lot on here seem to have, I would just go get a 6th gen (lighter to start with), and put a fully BUILT LS7 NA in it, and make my own, 6th gen Z28 WITHOUT a damned heat soaking huffer sitting in the valley, nor that f'ing AFM/DOD crapola, which seems to be the ONLY WAY the GM powertrain engineers know how to make power, currently.

That's IF I had to stick with the Bowtie and GM.
I REALLY like that GT350/GT350R pony (looks, sound, NA/NO huffer, AND handling/performance wise), even though saying that on here is considered blatant sacrilege, and blasphemy.
