Default Rearend Vent

Put a TA performance girdle on the rear end today. This is my first 7.625 10-bolt differential, I like to check the vent and make sure it isn't froze up. I was not able to locate the vent. I tried searching the forums and found nothing. Anyone know where it is?

passenger side on top. pic shows a tube fitting that I use to replace the plastic vent fitting that was pressed in. I tap the hole for 1/4npt. OEM fitting is plastic and pressed in(hole is 7/16" diameter) and has a plastic non-removeable cap that acts as the 'vent'.

Thanks, I should be able to find it now! I knew it had to have one somewhere.

Yep, he is correct. Its like a little mushroom top with no hose attached. I never altered mine, left it stock and never had any issues.

That is what most rear ends I have had have. Will check and make sure it is not damaged next time I am under there. Are all of these cars so noisy inside? I can hear the rear tires and rear end like there I no sound deadener back there. Tested the Zexel Torsen tonight it left two solid lines. The traction control is way better than the 2000 Mustang GT I had, if you did not turn the TC off in it the engine fell on its face if you burned the rear tires at all.

There is no sound deadening back there, or really anywhere else for that matter...
Still shouldn't be able to hear the rear end though, and tire noise varies from different tires and sizes.

I got a folder of receipts with the car and one was for having a pinion seal replaced. Am thinking maybe the rear was run with low lube level and the bearings got a little worn. Someday I'll probably have to change out all the bearings if I want to get rid of the noise. Had a 1965 GTO back in the 70's that howled worse than this and drove it for two years that way before I finally changed all the bearings.

Sorry for the thread resurrect, but do you just leave that open to the air, or do you have some sort of protective cover to keep debris out? If the latter, what are you using?

I put a section of rubber hose that fits on the fitting and zip tie it to the panhard bar support bracket, with enough extra length to allow for rear end up/down movement.

With nothing on the end of the hose to prevent ingress of water, debris, etc? Is your car street driven? Does it ever see anything other than warm, dry weather?

My car is street driven, and it sees all types of weather except for ice/snow/slush, and all types of road conditions except for salted. The axle I bought has a hose barb fitting like yours, and I’m trying to figure out what I should attach to it. I was thinking of the hose approach you described, but with some sort of dust cap on the end, similar to the factory thing.

Nothing on the end, street driven daily. The 4L60E comes with a open vent hose. Never encountered debris/water upon inspection.
