Default Gear Recommendation Please!

Hi guys,

I'm getting ready to build the rear end on my 72 Nova (8.5 10 bolt open diff), and am coming to you guys for recommendations on gears. I will be going with an Eaton 30 spline carrier.

I am dropping in an LQ4, cam, intake, and milled 243 head engine. This will all be backed by an f-body T56.

I plan on doing more street than strip driving. I was thinking between 3.73s or 3.90 gears.

What would you guys recommend?

Thank in advance!

Are you doing any drag racing? I'd figure out what tire you will run then plug it into a calculator like http://www.andysautosport.com/learni...r/calculators/ there are a bunch of similar calculators online.

It would be a 27 inch tire. The car will see mostly street use. Drag racing maybe every other week.

Thanks for the link! i was crunching some number in the calculator. It looks like even with a 3.90 gear and 27 inch tires I would do great in the highway. Doing 78mph, I would only be spinning 199RPM's. Not bad.

Has anybody ran a 3.90 on a similar setup? How have you liked it?

Thanks for the reply guys. I crunched some numbers on a couple of online calculators, and called Moser's tech support.

It looks like 3.90s are the way to go for me.
