Default 10 bolt pinion seal

Just swapped stock gears for 4.10s set everything up with new bearings and my pinion seal leaks. 1 is this seal bad or can it be fixed? 2 if it needs replaced what's the best seal to get? The seal is one that came from motive in their install kit. Thanks

Try packing the splines on the pinion gear and yoke with teflon thread sealer.

I've only done two gear swaps, but I've always packed the pinion flange splines with RTV incase it wants leak through there.

I had the same experience; leaked really bad. Turns out many of the kits have the incorrect seal. I bought a new seal at the dealer, and the problem is gone. If the new seal looks different from the original, it’s possibly the wrong one.

I ran into the same thing a year ago, sounds like you have the triple lip 2nd design like I did. The kit cam with your standard pinion seal. I believe the part number is 12471523
