Neither is better or worse than the other. They're identical except for the offset of the ring gear mounting surface.

I accidently ordered a set of carrier 2 gears (4.10) when I have a series 3 carrier. My mechanic called and told me this, then he told me that he had a series 2 carrier that he would sell me for a $100. That is why I am asking.
OK,understand now. Your 98 would have an Auburn carrier from the factory,is the series 2 carrier he's willing to sell you an Auburn or something else. Is it used ? does he keep your series 3 carrier or do you get it ?
