Default Chevelle 12 bolt rear wheel stud size

Picked up a rebuilt 12 bolt rear and trying to find studs for the axles. I am not sure if they are stock axles or not.
From what I read, stock axles are both 7/16 thread and push in. I went down to home depot and got a 7/16 thread nut and it passed through with no issue and was not a snug fit. I made the assumtion that the threaded holes were 7/16.
Also picked up a 1/2 bolt to try but could not get it to go in at all.

1/2 bolt

threads and clean holes

7/16 bolt

rear

I intend to do a ls3/6spd swap in the future and wanted to know if the 7/16 studs would hold up? My next step was to buy a caliper and check the hole sizes. Wanted to check here as well.

Not sure on the 7/16 but stock size for us is 12mm and 1/2 is a common and recommended upgrade IMO.
