Default Easiest rear end swap for 2002 Silverado.

1500 Ext. Cab Silverado. 2wd 6.0 turbo soon to have 4l80e. It has a 10 bolt limited slip. Tired of burning the one tire off and probably the only reason the rear end and trans has lasted. I'm wanting a posi and pretty sure the 8.6 10 bolt isn't going to last. I know the quickest, easiest and somewhat costly (around $1,000) swap is the Vortec Max rearend. I've seen drum style 14 bolt, 6 lug going for around $350-$500. Can drum style rearends be converted to disc using the parts off the 10 bolt? I know gm went back to drum style rear brakes but not sure how it will work where a disc brakes once was. I'm thinking of the abs system.

Disk conversions are pretty easy. You can beef up the stock 10 bolt to take a fair bit of power. Wheel hope is your nemesis with breaking them. Rear drum diffs have the sensor it the tube, not sure how easy that is to refit to your application. Probably doable

There's plenty of disc brake swap info around for our year trucks. If you want to keep it simple, pull a 14 bolt FF from an HD truck with disc brakes already on it. The only issue with that is it limits your rim choices and won't match the front, but I believe they make conversions for that too.
