Exclamation 10 bolt to 9"

New here guys. After many years of abuse the 10 bolt finally went out in the Ws6. The car is an HCI 6 speed car. 287/289 .605/.609 Comp Cam with long tubes, ORY and Texas Speed Cat back, stock fuel system besides the Racetronix FPA-001B fuel pump, Tick clutch master, Tick Short throw shifter. The car will eventually be swapped to a 5.3 cast iron block with a single turbo set up. I'm looking at Trick Chassis 9" set up.

I'm thinking 4.10 gears but what spline axles are recommended??? HELP

Thanks

Devin

Get 35 spline axles like the rest of us. They'll handle everything you can throw at them

Damn, forgive my ignorance but I want to do this right.

35 spline. Strange, Moser?

There are multiple center section options: Spool, Posi Trac, True Trac, Wave Trac, S Trac, Detroit Locker, Yukon. What do you think?
-The car will eventually be turbo and is a 6spd car so I need to keep all that in mind.

Also, If I order a complete axle set up do you think it's more cost effective for me to pay the extra $ for powder coat or should I purchase it raw and paint it myself?

If there is a better place to do my homework, then by all means let me know. I've never really used LS1TECH but I know this community has seen it all and knows what they are talking about.

Thanks

Do yourself a favor and contact Widwest Chassis and let them know what you are looking for. One of the best upgrades I ever made was getting their fabbed 9”

Be careful with Midwest. They have good days and bad days. I'd stay with Trick and have them powder coat the housing. Go with Strange 35 spline axels with an S trac if it's a street car. (Powertrax is a budget friendly option). If you go Powertrax, be sure to Loctite all of the case bolts. If track only, go spool. Detroit lockers are very notchy and hard to live with on the street. Good luck!

I really like the MWC Fab 9 with a spool but that's the all out strip car. For a street car with manual transmission I've been very pleased with Strange Engineering's S60 with Heavy Duty Posi and their 35 spline axles. I've done many clutch dumps in the 01 and all I'll say is that it's a stout piece.

The Strange 60 is a beast. I have a friend with one behind a 488 Pontiac stroker making 630 hp in a 70 Lemans.

I have an S60 in my M6 Formula. Lighter than a 9" unless you spend big bucks for an aluminum center section, less parasitic power loss, and unless you plan on swapping gears all the time, there's no real reason to go with one over an S60.

This may be a dumb question, but can I take the stock rear end gear set/center section out of an auto car and put it in my 6-speed car? Both are 10 bolts?

True, but you also have to ask, WHY? Factory M6 ratio is 3.42 and the best factory A4 ratio is 3.23, that would be going the wrong direction from a performance perspective, and there is no advantage strength-wise (its still a wimpy 7.5" 10-bolt). If you are on a budget and have the entire A4 rear axle, why swap the gear/diff and have to re-shim the pinion and diff when you can just swap in the entire rear axle assembly and save that headache?

I have had good experience with TruTrack for the street - PowerTrax will frighten the **** out of you going around a wet corner.
