Default Need help on type of gear oil to use

Hey everyone, about to change the 12 bolt moser rearend but I don't know which type of carrier it is so I am uncertain on which fluid to use and if I need to use any friction modifier? I inherited this car from my late brother so I don't know much on the rearend fluid type. Thanks in advance! Fyi this is for a 01 4th gen

Will need friction modifier. Springs = clutch type diff. Weight is usually 80-90. You can go heavier, but it will run hotter.

Thx, would mobil 1 be suitable? Also 3 bottles be enough along with the 4oz bottle of friction modifier?

I actually got response from moser. I'll need 3 bottles of 80-90W non-synthetic fluid along with a bottle of 4oz limited slip additive

I think pretty much every gear and axle company recommends non synthetic. Currie specifically says it runs cooler

I respectfully disagree with part of this statement, a heavier rear end oil has thicker molecules, and will dissipate heat quicker. I have been using straight 140W GL-4 dino oil in Sara (2001 Z28) for 22 years since her resr end gear change with no problems whatsoever. I have the stock rear axle that came with her.

You need to dig deeper as certain year Eaton Differentials have carbon fiber clutch discs and they do not live a long life if synthetic oil is ran. It delaminates the carbon from the discs and causes them to float around the carrier. Safe bet is GM limited slip additive and dyno oil 80W-90.
