Default Shavings - normal amount or excessive?

I popped the rear cover to put on a MAC rear end
girdle, and I found a fair bit of metal - silt and plenty
of larger, sharp shavings. Wonder if any folks who've
been into the diff, can tell me whether this is a
normal or an excessive amount, for a car just over
20Kmiles (enthusiatically driven but not often raced).

If it's indicating excessive wear then maybe I can get
the dealership to cut me a break on the labor, of a
gear and T-2R swap

You really ought to change that rear gear lube more frequently. I wouldn't go any longer than 10k miles personally. Change it at 5K if you can hack it. Use a good synthetic gear oil and the GM additive. All this is assuming that you are still on the stock 10bolt. My old 10 bolt always started making weird noises when doing figure 8 type manuvers in parking lots when the gear oil was getting worn out.
The aftermarket 12 bolt posi diff mfgs don't recommend synthetic gear oil.

Yeah, and I got 1 quart out of it but it took 3 to
fill...

At least now I have a drain plug.

i had my rear fluid changed about 10 months ago there was shavings in there.then when i added my girdle about 3 months ago and less than 10k there were shavings in there again.there was no abnormal wear.its just the way it is.
