Default POR-15 questions.

I was wondering what product(s) and how much are needed to do a new rear end? (Strange 12 bolt) Reason I ask is because there are several different prodcuts that are offered.

Not sure if they have dealers or not, but if so, where's the best place to get it at? (best: prices, customer service, fast shipping, etc.)

I ordered mine direct from the mfg. You can get it from Eastwood Co. too. You'll need less than a pint and some metal prep for etching the new metal. I used the regular POR-15 gloss black. I bought a quart and did 2 rear ends plus tons of other small stuff and still have about 1/4 can left. A little goes a LONG way.

I always thought very little prep was needed because POR stands for Paint Over Rust.

You're correct about that, but it doesn't stick to new bare metal well unless it's etched with metal prep first. He asked about painting a new housing.

Well I just wanna paint 1 rear end. My rear end showed up today and I would like to coat it before installing it. I want to make sure that I order the right stuff. Would the Super Starter kit be what I need or do I need to buy the products seperately?

http://www.por15.com/product.asp?productid=301

Id like to order the products needed today. Thanks.

Yeah, that would be perfect. Cheap too. I think I paid $30 for a quart + $10 for the metal prep.

I called them up today and they said that the kit wouldnt be enough. He said that I would need a quart of the cleaner, a quart of the metal ready, and a pint of the POR.

That's BS. You don't need the cleaner. The metal ready is like water and you'll need about a 1/2 pint or less easy. A 1/2 pint of the POR15 is plenty also. The POR15 paint goes a LONG way.

I know the rear end is new, but Im sure it has dirt, oils, etc. on it, so wouldnt I need some type of cleaner? For the stuff he said I needed, I was looking at $5X worth of products.

Nope. If your worried, a $1 can of brake cleaner and a rag will do just fine. POR-15 is damn near indestructable and easy to apply. Like he said, a little goes a long way

Yeah, just use brake cleaner to clean the oil off it. That's what I did.
