Default 2.59 Gear in my vette

My rearend is KILLING ME at the track (2.59 final drive ratio ). When my tranny shifts into 3rd (, RPMS drop to 3900 RPMS. I am running thru the traps at 4600 RPMS in 3rd. I feel that this is hurting my trap speed significantly. Would a 3.42 gear swap help my trap speed? 4L60 transmission. Thanks

Wow, going from a 2.59 (yawn) to a 3.42 would be a HUGE increase in torque to the rear wheels. 32% to be more precise. You will be absolutely astounded by the performace increase.

Do it, you won't be dissappointed! The down side is, you'll need a set of Nittos.

Now that I know that you changed the cam, you need more gear for sure! BUT, hopefully the automatic guys will chime in here and recommend the proper torque converter for your setup.
What are your cam specs? Did you change anything else?
You might consider posting this one on the "Internal Engine" or "Automatic Trans" section, you'll get lots more help.

Later,
John

Thanks again John.

Guess I should have been alot more specific. My mods are as follows:

PP LT1 Heads w/ 2.0" intake and 1.57" exhaust valves, upgraded valve springs
1.6/1 RR
LT4 Hot Cam (not bad, but I wish I had went with the CC305)
Flowmaster Force II Catback w/ gutted cats
Hooker Super Competition 1 3/4" shorties
K&N Air Filter w/ open air lid
52 mm TB
B&M Torkmaster 2400 Stall
Tuned by Alvin at PCMforless

Anyone else with thoughts on gear I should go with or any other input, please feel free to add.
