I ordered a Strange from a sponsor.

I can let you know how the install goes when I get mine in. I am expecting to take delivery within the next two weeks.

Moser Pro's- generally cost less than Strange, considerably shorter lead times (usually a week or less from what I have heard)

Moser Con's- seems from information here that Moser's setup quality from the factory is hit or miss, some people complain about torque arm mounting

Strange Pro's- again, from information on here, Strange seems to have alot better build and setup quality from the factory, torque arm mounting just like stock

Strange Con's- More expensive, takes considerably longer to get than Moser (Lead times in the 3-6 week range)

I am sure there are other pro's and con's out there for each, but the ones I listed where what I kept weighing my choice on. I didn't mind waiting longer for something that would be better quality wise. I also am not a fan of the Moser TA mounting, just a matter of opinion.

Also, keep in mind that alot of people have had good luck buying the parts for a Moser rearend and having a local shop install and set it up.

I'm happy with my Strange. TByrne has an exchange program so there is no wait on the brake backing plates that Strange slaps on the rear.

Strange is "plug and play" all the way.

It can happen with either side. My research tells me it's the Mosers who are louder. Any performance aftermarket rear is going to be louder than a stock rear with stock gears.

I will admit my Strange has a mild whine but I'm not bothered by it.

I have a moser and it is terribly loud.. it makes my car sound like a piece of ****. I haven't had a problem with torque arm bolts... I put red loctite on mine when I did the install and they haven't moved. If I was buying again I would buy it unassembled from Moser and have someone that knows how to set up a rear end to set the ring and pinion in it.

My Strange 12 bolt with 4.10's gets installed next Wednesday at Speed Inc. It was a 3 to 4 week wait for the unit to be built. They are not off the rack, they are built when ordered. Take a look at the Strange Engineering website. It's the setup procedure that caught my eye. They dyno all their rearends and have a dedicated setup team. I hope it's the truth and not just market hype. I ordered it with a U.S. Gear set which supposedly is more quiet. In talking with a Strange techie, he stated that any additional noise will not be gear whine, but the noise will stem from the fact that Strange does not include the sound deadening materials that GM does when the car is originally built. The unit now also includes the stronger posi unit as standard and all other materials. The only extra costs I had were priming and painting the unit, new BMR boxed LCAs and a BMR non-adjustable torque arm. I would have added more suspension or chassis components as installation was free, but I ran out of dough.

With an after market TQ Arm RED loctite is not fine. They back out, do a search. I know several people that have a moser 12 that this has happend to personally. The only fix is to keep tightening them.

Just a question, but why does it seem like nobody buys the Mark Williams rear? I always hear about Moser and Strange, not MW. I have dealt with them in the past, and they seem to have good quality.

I have a Moser 12 bolts, 3.73's, Eaton Posi., 33-spline axles.

It was noisy at first, but all the noises disappeared during the break-in process (I was *very* cautious with it for at least 800 miles).

It came fully assembled from Moser, with original Moser settings (guys at the shop said that the settings were OK).

Now, after 4K miles, its still dead silent (didn't ran it at the track however, it's a street car).

I'm putting down 399rwhp/411rwtq.

Starting at 2700.00

and the only thing that changes is the housing. the internals are the same

30 spline axles and 30 spline eaton 800# diff that people are still blowing up.

Only thing it looks like they are doing is casting different housings. Now if Currie makes a stronger housing than the strange then i am all for it but if its the same housing wth the same basic internals we are still in trouble...

My strange housing with axles (33 spline) ran me 1099.99 + 159 cover + 140 yoke=1389

The currie housing with cover and yoke is 939.95 + 399 for axles (31-35)= 1338

So I guess if you are building a 12-bolt from scratch it may be a LITTLE cheaper to go with the Currie

The Currie®-Built 12 Bolt Chevy Rearend is a unique combination of Chevy and Currie® components. The 12 bolt center section is combined with 9" Ford-type housing ends that eliminate the need for c-clip eliminators and allow the use of larger axle bearings with positive axle retention. The Ford housing end allows the use of a wide selection of disc or drum brake kits. The housing is then set up with the highest-quality gears and carrier assemblies and finished off with a set of Currie® performance alloy axles. The 12 bolt rear is well suited for street and performance applications with up to 650 horsepower.
Can anyone explain this to me

I have had no problems with my Moser 12 bolt. The TA bolts are fine. I have sticky tires on mine and have had no issues. It does whine a little, but I expected this since I went with the Richmond 3.90's. It's not what I would call loud though.
