Default Weird noise...

I have a 98 camaro A4 and the rear end is making a weird noise. It almost sounds like I have a flat spotted tire on the right rear (but I dont). It is not real loud but it make the most noise when it is cold or after you jump on it. I also have now picked up a small vibration that is almost like when you have a bad set of headers or exaust rubbing ( seems like it is coming from the front, not the back).....I dont think it is related but I'm not sure......This car is bone stock with 70k miles on it.....Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Thanks.....

Mine was making that same kind of noise when all this crap started happening with my rearend and I had a bad axle bearing on the right side. The really bad thing was that it ate the axle too. Something I would check out if I was you. Good luck.

When i bought the car I got a very good extended warranty ($1700) thru my credit union. It will be covered. I just hope it is the gear so i can get rid of these sorry *** 2.73's ya...I think it's the gear that's bad.

The sound you describe is typically an axle bearing. Gears tend to make a constant 'Hmmmmmmmmm' or howl and are worse at one speed range than another. The bearing noise is constant with speed and usually gets louder the faster you go!
Even if it is the gear set, talking them into a ratio swap may be next to impossible. Remember, a ratio change must be accompanied by a computer edit to make the speedo read correctly.
Good luck!

I think that there is a good chance it is a bearing.....It is real weird though...The best way to describe it is like a flat spotted tire except it does not make the noise the same all the time. After you drive awhile you can't hear it that much, but the first time you drive for the day it is twice as loud. As for the gear....I dont mind paying for the computer edit.....and I dont have to tell the warranty company that I want to change the ratio....We'll just keep that between me and the guy's at the shop.

" Bad T/A " My warranty is not thru GM....and most of the time they just authorize it over the phone.....It's a good company....they dont give you to much **** when something breaks....I'm just hope save on some of the labor if nothing else......Thanks for the input guys........I broke a richmond ring one time on an IROC and it was real clear what happened.....This noise is just a weird sound to me.

My car did that exact same thing, it that alternating sound that sounds like it is in the tires or something.

It was my bearings and seals, and when they went bad it wore the hardness off of my axles. The whole thing costed me over 1,000 after install. I would get a new rear end if I were you (if you race a lot with drag radials) because I am regretting fixing mine (even though it still works).

Well I have a aftermarket warranty that will pay to fix it....What parts did you have to replace? does it end up destroying most of the internal parts to the rear end?
