Default Will it break my 10-bolt?

With the mods in my sig, I need traction really bad. I have sticky tires and still cannot hook up unless I launch real easy. If I buy a non-adjustable, after-market torque arm, will it break my rearend? Or, will an after-market torque arm even give me much better traction than the flimsy stock stamped steel one?

Seeing as you have an auto that is your biggest advantage but you can still break it with sticky tires because I have seen stock cars break the 10 bolt. If you do break it I have one for sale.

I've heard of people breaking the stock 10-bolt with 30-40 hard launches and I've also heard people who have awesome torque who have 400+ hard launched passes on them with no problems. The rearends were supposed to be the same year-to-year since 1972. Did they add more nickel in the metal to make it stronger/harder in any particular year models? Anyone know?

BTW, if I bust this one, I'll certainly won't be buying another one as a replcement, but, thanks for offering one. Next will be Moser 12-bolt if the GM dies.

Anyone know a way to give the stocker more support more support? I've seen folks who have had a piece of 1" angle iron welded all the way accross the axles, including the housing. It looks like this might do more harm than good. Hopefully, my MAC cover will provide me enough support to get me into the 11's. I think I'm almost there ... maybe with a stall converter and a torque arm.

I doubt that would do anything cause what ususally happens is the gears in the posi break/strip.

Default ... didn't know that.

I had heard the rearend girdles are so popular because the pumpkin sometimes splits ... guess anything could go at any time ... maybe even a spun axle. Anybody care to weigh in on what their experiences have shown? I think 2MRMMS probably stated the most common problem.

I have comp. Engineering traction bars on my 98 Z with drag radials and hooked so good that my clutch started slipping. This was with 4k rpm drops with a 6speed. Stock clutch 65k miles. Best time before traction bars and drag radials 13.27@ 107. Clutch slips so bad I only run 13.4@ 100 and couldn't shift into 4th gear.

Default You must have been readin' my mind.

That's what I was thinking ... maybe SFC's, then a torque arm, and then the stall converter. I feel like I should then be in the low-mid 12's. With my A4, I think I'll be OK as long as I don't launch too hard ... so far as the rearend is concerned.

Default QA1's????

The QA1's are nice, but, I'm pretty happy with the Bilstein Heavy Duty's. I don't see that it would be worth the money to change them. I'm not sure what shocks have to do with breaking my rearend. I know the QA1's are 12-way adjustable, however, as I had mentioned above, I will only go to the dragstrip for fun and won't be launching too hard. My application is mainly for a daily driver ... just pure street fun. Anyone else care to elaborate on the issue?

I think a big factor in them breaking is the kind of tires you use. A really sticky tire is alot harder from a dig on your rear (especially at the track).
