Difference in a 98 and 99 rearend???
I have a 98 with the bone stock 3.42 rear. I also bought a rearend from a 99 SS Camaro. It has a T/A cover, 4.10's and has been rebuilt. The only thing was that it was missing the big pin that goes in the inside of the rear. I think no big deal, I will just swap the pin out into the 99 rear. Well the posi's seem to be different??? I believe the one in the 99 is a Torsen, and the 98 possibly an Auburn??? Does anyone have pics of a 99 rearend so I know what else I am missing inside? The 98 has what I guess is a spider gear ( goes in the center, and has a bunch of springs. The 99 doesnt have this. Should it? I cant swap the spider gear from the 98 to the 99 cause the opening in the center of the 99 rear is smaller than the 98???

Ok I believe the rear from the 99 is a Torsen do to the fact that the word Torsen is printed on the posi. What I am looking for is the center piece that keeps the axles from backing out. Not the clips. ???? HELP!!!!
Go to the second pic that shows the inside of the posi. There is a big solid piece that goes in the center to hold the axles in. Wat is it, and does anyone know where I can buy one or have an extra laying around??? Someone help me please!!!
I believe you're talking about the center pin. It should be held in place by a small bolt. I can't say for sure if the center pins are interchangeable between the '98 Auburn and the '99 Torsen....Anyone help this person? WJ
It's called a paddle in the Torsen and no it isn't the same part in the Auburn. I know SLP sells a 2 piece paddle but is expensive. You would think this would be an easy part to find in a junk yard or the dealer??

Yep, that's the stock replacement series 3 Torsen, at least the part number is.
You have 12 hours to decide if you want it or not. Probably not a bad price for a new unit.
Here's an Ebay link to the SLP paddle replacements for the diff. Would be a cheaper and easier fix than swapping out the whole diff.
