Default Help choosing a rear end!

Time to finally ditch the ten bolt. I was ready to order a Moser, but after some searching I'm not so sure that would be wise. Is the build quality still subpar?
I currently have 4.10s in the 10 bolt. It's fun at highway speeds, but pretty tough on traction down low. My new motor setup peaks at 6200, and I plan on shifting at 6600. Now I'm thinking I may run out of fourth gear too soon. Should I go with a 3.73?

If you don't mind a lead time of a few weeks, order a Strange 12 bolt (if you want to go the 12 bolt route).

Moser or Billingsley are your 9" options.

In the end, your rear's weakest link will be the posi. If you want to go with a bulletproof setup, go with a spool. A locker on the 9" is a decent compromise also.

I just got a new 9" and went with a posi due to the fact that I plan on roadcoarsing the car. Otherwise, I would have gone with a locker.

You won't run out of gear with the 4.11s in the 12 bolt... if your peak power comes on at 6200, and shifting at 6600, then your rev limiter should be around 6800. You'd need to be running something in the 125 mph range in the traps to run out of gear.

That's why I'm actually switching to 4.30s in my 12 bolt... I'm shifting around 6700-6800 rpms.

3.73 will do 135 at 6600 rpms if that helps. Assuming stock tire diameter with no tire growth.

I am wanting to go with 4.11's in a 9 inch, but I might end up going 3.90's since I hope to be trapping over 125mph.

No problem. I've got 800 miles on the new rear. There was a little and mean a little bit of gear noise during the first 200 miles. It is now silent. On acceleration you can here the rear a little, but not whining. It's a good powerful sound. At about 2500 rpms the Corsa overtakes any rearend sound. There is no gear noise at any cruise speed, highway or city. While I have not really got on it yet, the difference in acceleration is really strong. This was a very positive install and purchase. Also, since I live in Chicago, I was able to take a tour of the Strange Engineering factory. And, I also met the crew that assembles the rears and puts the gears together. They seemed competent, knowlegable and interested in talking about their jobs. I'm glad I spent the few extra bucks and bought the Strange rear. Hope that helps.

The true test will be when you start pounding on it a little bit. That's when the whine will start--if it's going to start. Do you have a girdle-style rear cover on the Strange? When did they tell you to change the gear oil? Eaton posi? I wish you good luck w/it, noah. WJ
