Default Gear whine??

I got a set of Richmond 4.10s installed about a month ago and I have notice that at free way speeds there is a very high shrill 'tone' that comes at light throttle. I dont want to call it whine just yet..

It comes on at specific freeway speeds and I had to get a second opinon that it was even there and I wasnt hearing things. The shop that did the install went for a ride with me and said there was no gear whine and I have been told that Richmond gears just make noise

What do you guys think??

Sounds like whine to me, let guess from 45-70 or so in 5th or sixth gear.

Doesn't sound like a problem to me though. I had the same symptoms, and loved my Richmond gears.

Often it is more of a harmonic whine which is normal. When you get to a certain speed, the sound frequency transmits from the differential. If it gets louder, that may be something, but I will bet you are going to be ok.

Yea it will be ok as long as it doesn't get to load. I like my richmonds to and i don't mind that litlle sound cause its nothing that my exhaust and sterio can't drown out.

From the way you describe it, it doesn't really sound like a problem. kind of hard to tell via the internet though. If it starts to get louder then I'd be concerned

My stock gear was sounding like that after a while. Gears were fine though when we pulled them at 23,000K. Only thing was the nut holding my pinion gear in was pretty loose.

I think its just what 4.10s do. After the first couple WOT passes you put on them they are going to wine a little, doesn't mean you rear is about to go.
