Default Powertrax

I have a 2003 Silverado with a stock 4.8 with an open differential.
In light sand or rain, if I get on it a little, the rear tires looses traction.
I do not ahve the skills to install a locker.
I am looking a an add for Powertrax, but I am unsure of the specs for my differential, so I do not know what to order.
Has anyone installed a Powertrax in a similar vehicle and if so, could someone provide me with the correct part #.

Thanks
Bob

Find the Powertrax website, it should list the applications. I used to run one, and loved it.

Could that PowerTrax unit handle a 9 second quarter mile, Turbocharged 389" motor? I might need to check that out............I have big dreams, but I may be getting a 9+ from Currie Enterprises when I get the tax return .

i put one in the rear of my jeep wrangler. off-road it was awsome. but on the road it would randomly unlock. It would scare the hell out of who ever was with me. kind of like driving with a spool at normal speeds and around gradual corners, thats when it would snap unlocked and really throw the jeep around. going slow around corners was fine with the ratcheting action. also it slowly worked the u-joint u-bolts loose. if you daily drive the vehicle on the road i wouldnt recomend it, especially on any kind of curvy highway.

I wouldnt use a lock rite in anything faster than a 13 second vehicle, and even slower ones that will see much track use. They are designed for off road vehicles and low speed. They absolutely suck in Jeep Wranglers because of the short wheel base. They have a no-spin that would be better for street use. They are no stronger than the stock diff because they use the stock case and pin. In some cases they are weaker because of the small locking teeth.

I run one and like it. I drive around some pretty sharp curves on the way to work everyday and if your on the throttle it will push ( oversteer ) slightly and you know its locked up. If you let off the gas abruptly while taking a curve it will sort of snap back in a little just enough to scare you the first time it does it but you get used to it and come to expect it every now and then. Let me clarify. It has to be a very sharp curve that you are taking pretty quickly. I have a 35MPH S-curve that I take at min 55-60 and sometimes upward of 65 and if you get off track then instead of steering you just let off the gas and it will put you back on track. That sort of thing. You dont have to contersteer or anything, it's more of a wobble. As far as putting one in, they say an hour but it took me more like 2.5 and I had never cracked open or seen the inside of a diff. in my life. They have pretty good instructions w/ illustrations that come with them and I even downloaded some to look at before I purchased to see if I was up to the task. They are pretty simple only like 6 main parts so its not too bad and I didn't have to take it to someone to install it. I got mine from a 4x4 site called Rocky Road outfitters for about 380 shipped. Sorry for the rambling on and on,hope this helps...Zed
