Ring & Pinion install guide?
http://www.richmondgear.com/installmanuals.htm
A few Tips and Tricks I can give you is:
1.) Have access to an Impact Gun. You will definetly need this to get the pinion nut off and to put it back on.
2.) When installing the gears get a new bearing set. Pre-Load on the pinion is around 25 in/lbs new or 15 in/lbs old
3.) Learn to read the gear patterns. No matter what the specs are, the pattern is the end-all on the correct set-up.
Look for a patter that is centered on the Ring teeth.
4.) The new crush sleeve is a BITCH to compress. That is why you will want the impact gun.
5.) You will have to prees the new or old bearings into place. Don't try to hammer them. The bearing will become damaged.
6.) A trick to get you started is to use the Pinion shim for your rear from the factory. I was told that the shim is made for the Housing and can get you very close if not dead on from a get go.
7.) You could have an old pinion bearing shved on the inside that will just slip on over the pinion. This will help you set-up the Pinion depth easier, and with a correct pattern will eliminate the Pinion Depth tool.
You'll need a Dial Indicator to determin Backlash (0.08-0.12 usually, but follow manufatures specs), A Micrometer or Dial Caliper to measure shims, about 2-3 qts of lube, 1 bottle posi fluid.
I have to get to work here soon. I'll get more info to you after work.
Get a good impact gun! It helps to get the crush sleeve started in a press, just compress it half way between the thickness of the old one and the new one. Or, save some headaches and get a solid spacer, which is better anyway. Also, I dont know if anybody mentioned it, but if you are going to have to try a few different shims it doesnt hurt to have some dummy bearings. Just take an old bearing and bore the center so it slips on and off.
