The 4 channel has the reluctor rings pressed onto each axle where the brake backing plates are located. The 3 channel set up has the reluctor located by the ring gear in the center section.

Electronics
So what is the differene inside of the computer? How does it all work together as far as the signals and why one is different than the others? I have enough to contemplate at work so when I go to think about this stuff my brain is just fried.

The sensor itself is a strong magnet, as the cogs or teeth of the reluctor/ exciter pass by the magnet an electrical field is created, which is measured in ohms[resistance]. The computer then modifies and pulses the brakes depending on the input it receives from each wheel.

Easier yet, if your car was ordered with the traction control option, it will be the 4 channel set up. If not it will be the 3 channel set up. If your car was ordered with the optional traction control system, it will have a TCS rocker switch located just above the center console on the WS6 to turn it on or off. The Camaros will have an ASR switch on the dash to turn theirs on and off. TCS is what Pontiac chose to call it (traction control system). ASR is what Chevrolet chose to call it (anti slip reduction... or something like that) they are both the exact same thing and both require the computer to be able to identify individual wheel speeds which is why each rear wheel has it owns sensor (along with each front wheel) which is why it is referred to as the 4 channel set up (4 sensors). The cars with out the TCS/ASR option still have ABS so they have a sensor on each front wheel, but only ONE mounted to the rear axle on the center section hence the term 3 channel set up (for a total of 3 sensors). If that does not clear it up... nothing will.

One more thing.
I am curious to know if you could take a car's ECU with the 3 channel setup and modify it for the 4 channel. As in to be able to use the 9" in a ABS only car. What I was thinking was that if the computer is making all these calculations based on these 4 sensors then you could still hook all of them up but then go inside the computer and turn the traction control system off that way you wouldn't get any errors or anything. I don't know if this is possible but it sounds like it should work. Can anyone that has LS1 Edit or HP Tuners tell me wether or not it has control over the traction control option?
