Sometimes it sometimes it won't
It could be the powershifting, remember that syncronizers take the brunt of powershifting. This would wear them at a higher rate. The reason that it may increase effort, is that they syncro also helps keep the gear in, but if metallic pieces get stuck inside the hub, you may experience the condition.
This is speculation, and I would have it checked.
