Default 16" front runners: does anyone make them?

Ok, I'm cheap, and I want a 16" front runner to put on the space saver spare wheels. Does anyone make such a tire?

Why not just run the space saver spare...tire and all? I'm not sure if a bias ply tire will save you too much in weight.

I know that some tracks around me won’t let you run with those 55mph rated spares. Is that the problem?

I thought the space saver was a 17inch wheel. If it is a 16 then try Mickey Thompson ET Fronts. They Make a 26" tire. Not sure if they make one narrow enough for the space saver though.

I forgot all about this post!

You need a speed rated tire in order to be safe and legal. The LS1 space saver spares are 16" dia. The LT1 with the smaller brakes are 15"

Does Mickey T make a 16" dia tire? I thought I couldn't find anything on there web site.

Good catch! I must have been thinking about the 16 inch rears. They only make 15s for now.

LOL Terry,
Skinnies have ALWAYS been worth 1.5 tenths for me in the 3 f-bodies I have owned. Not only is the weight reduced but the aerodynamic resistance as well. This is ESPECIALLY true for those with 17 inch rims and 275's up front
I would personally just buy the Centerline Skinnies and decent VW tires.
Cheers,
Chris

Think about it Terry. GM made the wheel. The wheel had to pass spec. It HAS to be able to support the vehicle wheight. Speed has nothing to do with the metal wheel, and everything to do with the tire. I could care less how it looks. I'm cheap, and if I can get skinnies for less I'm there. I can use the stock lugs, no spacers to deal with, I already have the spares, I just need the tires. They have to be good for something over my 17's.

You know you're just doing it so that the front rims match the back.(Black and black).

Confused:
Ok maybe I am missing something here? Are you saying that you are thinking about using your spare tires/wheels on the front? If so that thing weighs a lot. If you want some front runners that don't weigh anything you need to buy some Welds and no they don't make 16" ones for the skinnies but they do have some Prostars 16x8 for the rear if you dont want the 15's for some reason.

The whole point is to save money. The steel space saver wheel doesn't wheigh that much more than an aluminum drag lite. The dollar per pound value is what I'm going for

Oh your car's ghetto alright. And I don't mean in the "rollin' on dubs, bling-blingin'" way either.

Have you weighed your space saver against a draglite or prostar(Harlan's)? IIRC the space-saver is actually pretty heavy.

At any rate, you're going to have a helluva rough time finding 16" tires that skinny that are speed-rated.

Don't be stupid, do you really think taking 20# off the front end is going to make much difference?

I don't know of any tracks that will allow you to run spare tire rims, and why would you want to risk the car for .03th?

No I haven't compared mine and his yet. I do know that they wheigh less than my 17's!

Have you seen how the space savers look on the car? Good luck passing tech. As someone else pointed out the space saver steel wheel is pretty heavy to start with. I suspect with a speed rated tire, you're looking at 28-30# VS 45-50# for your 17" rims. How much do you think the potential 40# weight savings is worth? I guarantee its not worth more than half a tenth.

23#'s for space saver, as is. 45# per 275/40/17 F1.

On my car, skinnies are worth abot .15 and around 1 mph. I did try the ghetto skinny mod, only to get tossed at the starting line.

The smallest 16" the tire rack has listed is a 195/50/16.
