Car is Howling
Went to the track and after a couple of moderately hard launches the car is now howling almost unbearably. It does it in all gears. It sounds like its coming right out of the shifter. When I corner I get a kinda grinding sound sometimes, and at low speeds especially decelerating from about 10mph to a stop it kinda rumbles. when I push the clutch in or take it out of gear it gets a 99% better. Any suggestions as to how to narrow this down to just the rear, or tranny and rear would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jason

Re: Car is Howling
I know when the pinion bearings went out on my 98 (dealership hosed them when replacing the ever famous leaky pinion seal) the made all sorts of howling that scared the **** out of me. It was an A4 so i dont know if met exactly all your criteria, but its something to check.

Re: Car is Howling
I opened it up today and the pinion bearing did feel a little rouph but the gear pattern was also a bit off a bit to the inside of the ring gear. I guess I will have to take it to a shop. Found a shop who gaurantees me the gears will be quiet. Says he uses GM gears. Will these hold up till I am in a position to buy the twelve bolt? Thanks Jason
